IT employee union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has filed a complaint against Wipro in the Labour Ministry.

Wipro rolled out a revised offer letter for recruits awaiting onboarding at the company for over 12 months. The company has reduced the employee’s salary by 50 percent from Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh per annum.

Wipro provides training to freshers employees. This gives an opportunity to the Elite fresher candidate to upgrade to the ‘Turbo’ category. This also upgrades the salary package of employees.

On this matter, NITES has written a complaint to the Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav.

According to the Moneycontrol report, The letter read “The company told employees in February 2022 that either they have to pay for training which will cost Rs 30,000-40,000 or else they need to undergo an unpaid internship & a training program called Velocity for a period of 3 months.”

“The Unpaid Internship started around March – April 2022 & ended around July 2022. The joining of these employees was supposed to be completed in August 2022 but the company kept on postponing the joining or onboarding date,” the letter added.

The offer to reduce salary, NITES said, is unethical and “is a clear violation of the terms of the offer letter and a breach of contract.”

Harpreet Singh Saluja has said, “We demand fair treatment, respect, and ethical practices in the workplace. No more exploitation, discrimination, or harassment.”

“We stand together in solidarity to fight for our rights and create a better future for all employees”, Harpreet Singh Saluja added.

However, other IT companies Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, Accenture, Mphasis, and Mindtree have been delaying the onboarding of freshers.

Earlier, Wipro sacked 452 fresher employees due to poor performance. The union of IT employees Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) said that it ‘strongly condemns the unethical layoffs done by Wipro.’

Wipro’s net headcount has decreased by 435 employees during the December quarter. The company’s voluntary attrition moderated 180 bps from the previous quarter, which stood at 21.2% for the trailing twelve months for the quarter.
