Amazon 2025 salary disclosures, based on publicly available H-1B visa filings and internal compensation data, offer a detailed look into how the tech giant pays its global workforce.

With a headcount of approximately 1.6 million employees worldwide, including 11,300 foreign workers hired in Q1 2025 alone, Amazon continues to attract top-tier talent with competitive pay across divisions such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon.com Services, and Amazon Data Services.

The filings reveal that software engineers, data scientists, and technical product managers are among the highest-paid roles, with salaries reaching up to $263,700 annually—excluding stock options and bonuses.

These figures reflect base salaries only, with equity and performance bonuses often pushing total compensation higher.

Amazon Global Hiring and H-1B Trends

Amazon’s aggressive hiring strategy in 2025 included onboarding 11,300 foreign workers under the H-1B visa programme, many of whom are Indian nationals.

These hires were concentrated in AI, cloud infrastructure, and software development roles.

The company’s reliance on H-1B talent underscores its need for specialized skills to support its expanding tech operations.

Interestingly, Amazon has also begun exploring the O-1 visa route, which caters to individuals with extraordinary abilities, as an alternative to the increasingly competitive H-1B programme.

Layoffs and Restructuring Amid AI Expansion

Despite strong hiring in key areas, Amazon has also undergone targeted layoffs, particularly within AWS and its books and devices divisions.

These cuts are part of a broader restructuring linked to the company’s AI adoption strategy, which CEO Andy Jassy has said will reduce the need for certain white-collar roles.

Employees in subsidiaries such as Ring and Blink are now required to demonstrate AI usage in their workflows to qualify for promotions, reflecting Amazon’s shift toward performance-based advancement.

India Salary Snapshot

In India, Amazon’s average annual salary stands at approximately ₹9.7 lakh, with significant variation across roles:

  • Software Development Engineer: ₹21.1 – ₹39.9 lakh
  • Program Manager: ₹16.7 – ₹28 lakh
  • Data Analyst: ₹4.5 – ₹9.8 lakh
  • Customer Service Associate: ₹1.8 – ₹5 lakh

Senior roles, such as Vice President – Operations, can earn between ₹1.2 crore to ₹2.7 crore annually, placing Amazon among the top-paying employers in India’s tech sector.

Performance-Based Pay Structure

Amazon’s 2025 salary model emphasizes consistent high performance.

Employees rated “Top Tier” for four consecutive years now receive 110% of their pay range, while first-time achievers receive just 70%, down from 80% in 2024.

This shift reflects Amazon’s focus on reliability over one-time success, aligning with broader tech industry trends.
