Tata Group is close to taking over iPhone maker’s plant in India

An Indian multinational conglomerate, Tata Group is close to taking over the iPhone maker’s plant in India.

Wistron is one of the three Taiwanese iPhone makers in India along with Foxconn and Pegatron Corp. As Wistron plans to exit iPhone manufacturing in India, its Taiwanese partners are expanding their iPhone production lines.

According to the reports, The Tata group has been in talks with the factory’s owner of Taiwan’s Wistron Corp. for several months. The acquisition of Wistron’s only iPhone manufacturing operation in India at more than $600 million. It is expected that the acquisition will be completed by March 31 to its Tata Electronics arm.

If the takeover ends by March then the plant will also qualify for government incentives from April 1, 2023. Currently, Wistron’s 2.2 million square foot factory is located 30 miles (50 km) east of Bangalore.

Post the takeover, The Tata group would acquire all eight of its iPhone lines as well as the plant’s 10,000 employees, including a few thousand engineers.
