Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) has inaugurated a Green Energy Skilling Centre at Rohini, Delhi.

The centre will offer specialized training in renewable energy technologies such as Solar PV Systems, Energy Storage, Pumped Hydro Storage, and Electrical Safety.

These efforts align with India’s national goals for sustainable development and energy security.

The launch event was graced by Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power.

Senior officials from MNRE, NITI Aayog, REC, NCVET, and Tata Power Delhi Distribution attended the event. Their presence signaled strong institutional support for the initiative.

Tata Power Skill Development Institute: A National Leader in Energy Sector Skilling

TPSDI, recognized as a dual awarding body by NCVET, has emerged as a premier institute for energy sector training.

It offers over 200 modular courses across domains such as Green Energy, Transmission & Distribution, Power Systems, Safety, and Soft Skills.

The institute has trained more than 3.43 lakh individuals, including 50,000 beneficiaries from affirmative action groups and 18,000 women.

Altogether, this effort has resulted in over 1.3 million person-days of training.

The new Rohini centre is TPSDI’s 12th full-fledged hub, joining existing facilities in Mundra, Shahad, Trombay, Vidyavihar, Wayanad, Maithon, and Jojobera, along with spokes in Bikaner, Prayagraj, Balasore, and Tirunelveli.

TPSDI plans to open eight additional centres this year, including new hubs in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Cuttack.

Training for Tomorrow: Courses and Curriculum

The Rohini centre will deliver hands-on training in:

  • Solar PV systems: Installation, commissioning, and operations & maintenance
  • Energy Storage Systems: Including battery technologies and grid integration
  • Pumped Hydro Storage: A critical component of India’s renewable energy mix
  • Electrical Safety: Ensuring safe practices in high-voltage environments

TPSDI’s curriculum is aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and NCVET-approved Qualification Packs (QPs).

It also supports national initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, which aims to scale rooftop solar adoption across India.

Tata Power: Global Reach and Strategic Partnerships

TPSDI has extended its training footprint to 43+ locations, including international engagements in Bhutan, Ethiopia, and Liberia.

It is affiliated with the Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC) and the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ), and is among the first private skilling bodies to receive NCVET dual awarding status.

The institute’s training model blends life-sized industrial simulators, e-learning, virtual reality, and a Virtual Academy of Skills, making it accessible and immersive.

It is certified by CEA, ISO 21001:2018, and recognized for its role in advancing a safety-first culture in India’s power sector.

Strategic Significance for India’s Green Economy

India has set ambitious targets to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.

TPSDI’s new centre is a timely intervention to bridge the skill gap in green technologies and support the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Praveer Sinha emphasized, “This centre is not just about training—it’s about transforming lives and powering India’s green future.”
