Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to retrain about 100,000 employees every year—nearly one-sixth of its workforce—as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to redefine technology services and client expectations, Nikkei Asia reported.
Chief Technology Officer Harrick Vin said that the emergence of generative AI marks “a transformation unlike any other technological wave.” Unlike traditional tools, AI systems that learn and evolve autonomously require new approaches to testing and quality assurance, he explained.
To address these challenges, TCS is scaling up its internal learning and development programs. Employees are being encouraged to explore AI tools through hands-on projects and hackathons, enabling them to acquire practical skills. “Every organisation will have to do this,” Vin noted, emphasizing the urgency of adapting to AI-driven change.
Financial Performance and Restructuring
For the July–September quarter, TCS reported a consolidated net profit of ₹12,075 crore, a 1.4% increase year-on-year, despite restructuring costs of ₹1,135 crore. Revenue grew 2.4% to ₹65,799 crore.
Chief Executive Officer K. Krithivasan reaffirmed TCS’s commitment to strengthening its portfolio through “deep client engagement and AI-led solutions,” highlighting that innovation and automation will drive upcoming growth cycles.
In July, the company announced plans to reduce its workforce by around 12,200 employees—approximately 2% of its headcount—by March 2026. The move aims to streamline operations and transition toward what Krithivasan described as a “future-ready organisation.”
Expansion in the United Kingdom
Even as it optimizes its workforce, TCS continues to expand internationally. The company intends to create 5,000 new jobs in the United Kingdom over the next three years.
It has also launched an AI Experience Zone and a Design Studio in London, its second-largest innovation center after New York. These facilities, modeled on TCS’s flagship PacePort hubs, will enhance collaboration and accelerate the co-creation of AI-driven solutions with clients.
TCS has operated in the UK for more than 50 years, supporting around 42,000 direct and indirect jobs. The expanded presence reinforces its strategic focus on innovation, skills development, and global client partnerships amid the rapid evolution of AI technologies.
