In a progressive move to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry exposure, the Government of Maharashtra has officially launched a state-wide internship initiative in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The initiative, rolled out through the AICTE Internship Portal, is aimed at providing hands-on, real-world experience to students enrolled in technical and professional programs across the state.

This initiative is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which places a strong emphasis on integrating internships and practical training into mainstream education.

Through this effort, the state government seeks to ensure that students are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience required to thrive in competitive professional environments.

Wide Range of Opportunities Across Sectors

The internship listings available on the AICTE portal span across various sectors, including government departments, private industries, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic and research institutions, and even startups.

These internships are designed to expose students to the working dynamics of the real world, helping them gain insights into their chosen fields. Students can apply for roles in industries such as information technology, manufacturing, energy, environment, healthcare, education, rural development, and more.

Opportunities are also available in innovation and entrepreneurship domains, where students can intern with incubators and startups to understand the end-to-end journey of business creation—from ideation to prototyping and launch.

District-Wise Access to Internships

To ensure accessibility for all students across the state, the portal offers a district-wise filtering system. Students from cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Aurangabad, and also from rural districts like Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, and Nandurbar can find opportunities near their location or explore options in other parts of the state.

This decentralized approach helps ensure that students, irrespective of their geographical location, can benefit from internship opportunities and enhance their learning.

Internships Now a Mandatory Academic Requirement

As per AICTE and NEP 2020 guidelines, internships have now become an essential part of academic programs. Completion of internships is mandatory for students to fulfill the credit requirements of their degree programs.

Typically, one credit corresponds to 35-40 hours of internship work, and students are encouraged to complete multiple internships throughout their academic journey.

User-Friendly Application Process

The AICTE Internship Portal is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly. Students can log in, filter by district and sector, and apply directly through the platform.

The portal also provides FAQs, user manuals, and helpline details to assist students and institutional coordinators throughout the application and onboarding process.

Government’s Vision

A senior official at the Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department stated, “This internship initiative is a vital step toward preparing our students for the future workforce.”

“We urge all educational institutions to support and promote this initiative actively so that every eligible student can benefit.” it added.

This state-supported drive is a significant stride in empowering Maharashtra’s youth, enhancing employability, and fostering a culture of experiential learning.

Students and institutions are encouraged to visit the AICTE Page to explore opportunities and register.
