Genpact Employees Push Back Against 10-Hour Workday Policy

Genpact, a global professional services firm, has come under scrutiny following its decision to extend daily work hours to 10 hours across select Indian offices, including Hyderabad.

The policy, which was internally communicated 20 days ago, has triggered widespread backlash among employees, HR professionals, and industry experts.

Many workers have taken to social media platforms to voice their concerns, citing increased workload, minimal incentives, and deteriorating work-life balance as key issues.

10-Hour Workday Policy: What Changed?

Under the new system, Genpact employees are required to log 10 hours daily, with productivity monitored through an internal portal that tracks active hours.

Employees who meet the required hours earn 500 points per month, translating to ₹3,000 in incentives.

However, only 5% of this amount (₹150) is allocated for the additional time, which many workers argue is insufficient compensation for the extended work hours.

Genpact’s leadership did not officially announce the policy, leaving employees to receive updates through managers and agents.

This lack of direct communication has raised concerns about transparency and clarity within the organization.

Employees who question the policy reportedly face warnings or behavioral issue flags, leading to potential repercussions on appraisals and bonuses.

Genpact Employee Concerns and Social Media Backlash

The announcement has led to anxiety and frustration among employees, many of whom feel they are already working long hours under tight deadlines.

Several workers have reported a tense workplace atmosphere, citing increased pressure and uncertainty.

Attrition rates have been rising as experienced employees leave, making way for new hires to fill the gaps.

Social media platforms, including Reddit and Fishbowl, have seen an influx of posts criticizing the policy.

One Reddit user criticized the internal tracking system (WAM) as an “abusive tool” that closely monitors employee activity.

They claimed it logs keystrokes and enforces a requirement to maintain nine active hours during the 10-hour shift.

Failure to comply reportedly results in warning emails, which can lead to bonus deductions and stalled appraisals.
