The ELI Scheme: A Boost for Employment

The ELI Scheme aims to address the pressing need for job creation in formal sectors. Here are the key points discussed during the session:

The ELI Scheme seeks to create more than 2 crore jobs across the country within a span of 2 years. It targets sectors that significantly contribute to employment opportunities and livelihood enhancement.

While growth in employment is essential, the quality of jobs matters equally. The government recognizes this and emphasizes the need for sustainable and meaningful employment.

The session highlighted emerging areas such as Gig and Platform work and the role of Global Competency Centres (GCCs) in job creation.

Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in employment generation. Encouraging them to scale up and create jobs was a central theme.

She underscored the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders as the scheme is fine-tuned before implementation.
