Samsung India and its workers’ union have reached a three-year wage agreement, ending a year-long protest at the company’s Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Labour Minister C V Ganesan actively facilitated the resolution after conducting multiple rounds of negotiations between Samsung India management and the CITU-backed Samsung India Workers’ Union (Siwu).

The agreement includes salary hikes, promotions, and additional benefits, marking a significant step toward improving employee welfare at the plant.

Samsung Wage Hike and Benefits

Under the new agreement, Samsung workers will receive a wage hike of ₹9,000 in FY26, followed by ₹4,500 each in FY27 and FY28, totaling ₹18,000 over three years.

Additionally, employees will receive a special wage increase ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹4,000, based on experience.

The agreement also includes a one-time promotion for workers who have completed six years of service as of May 31, 2025, but have not received any promotion so far.

Other benefits include additional leave, service awards for long-serving employees, and air-conditioned bus transportation for workers at the Sriperumbudur plant.

Samsung Workers Strike: Government Intervention and Resolution

The wage dispute had been ongoing for nearly a year, with workers staging multiple protests demanding higher pay and better working conditions.

In September 2024, Siwu-affiliated workers initiated a 37-day strike involving nearly 1,000 employees.

The government later facilitated negotiations, leading to the strike being called off.

However, tensions resurfaced in early 2025, leading to further protests and suspensions of over 20 workers.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin intervened, initiating tripartite talks between the state government, Samsung management, and union representatives.

After five hours of intense discussions, the company agreed to the wage hike and additional benefits, bringing an end to one of the longest labour disputes in recent times.

Samsung’s Commitment to Employee Welfare

Samsung India reaffirmed its commitment to making employee welfare a top priority.

The company also expressed satisfaction with the mutual agreement reached with its workers.

A Samsung India spokesperson stated, “We have constructively engaged with all our workers at the Chennai plant and are delighted to announce a mutual agreement to enhance wages and benefits for the next three years.”

Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T R B Rajaa welcomed the resolution and acknowledged its positive impact.

He also thanked the Samsung workforce and management for engaging in constructive dialogue.

He praised the Labour Minister and his team for successfully mediating the discussions and ensuring a fair settlement.
