  • Both Consumer Durables/FMCG, Retail sectors record over 30% growth in talent demand in Oct 2019 study
  • Petrochemicals/Oil and Gas, IT/Telecom and Construction/Cement sectors followed next with maximum growth in yearly analysis of talent demand

TimesJobs RecruiteX for October 2019 noted the highest Y-o-Y hike in talent demand for Consumer Durables/FMCG, Retail and Petrochemicals/Oil and Gas/ Power respectively.  Both the Consumer Durables/FMCG and Retail sectors noted stupendous Y-o-Y growth of over 30% in talent demand. The Petrochemicals/Oil and Gas sector noted 8% uptick in Y-o-Y analysis of talent demand.

Other sectors noting significant growth in hiring momentum were IT/Telecom and Construction/Cement sectors, each posting a growth of 5% in Y-o-Y study of talent demand.

TimesJobs RecruiteX is a monthly recruitment index that records the demand and supply of talent at India Inc.

The M-o-M analysis of talent demand was numb, with marginal talent demand in Retail, Consumer Durables/FMCG and BFSI sectors respectively.

Reflecting on the trends of TimesJobs RecruiteX for October 2019 edition, Sanjay Goyal, Business Head, TimesJobs and TechGig said, “The Consumer Durables/FMCG and Retail sectors have become the new all-weather hiring sectors. Despite the market stagnation, both these sectors are considering talent intake. The RecruiteX October 2019 data reveals that both these sectors have individually posted over 30% Y-o-Y growth in talent demand. This also hints at the fact that with the activity spurt in both these sectors, the market and the economy are trying to get back to gain momentum”.

It’s worth mentioning here that high volume sectors like IT/Telecom were on growth track in talent demand (with 5% hike) but lagged behind Consumer Durables/FMCG and Retail sectors with a huge margin. This also indicates a shift in the market dynamics, since IT/Telecom were leading hiring tallies for past few years.

The M-o-M analysis of hiring activities is as follows:

Sectors with maximum talent growth:

  • Retailing
  • Consumer Durables/FMCG
  • BFSI

Functional areas noting maximum demand:

  • IT/Telecom
  • Sales/Business Development
  • Marketing & Advertising
