Most of TCS, Infosys, Wipro employees continue to WFH

Even after Unlock 1, most of the employees working at TCS, Infosys, Wipro employees continue to work from home- Report

  • Over 95% of employees at the top 3 IT companies continue to work from home

However, the government has implemented #Unlock1 but most of the employees working at India’s top three IT companies continue to work from home, as companies prioritise safety and open their facilities in a staggered manner.

According to Times Now report, over 95% of TCS employees continue to work from home, 97% of Wipro employees are currently working from home. Infosys said 2% of its workforce started working from offices in phase-1 and this percentage would now be in the range of 5-6% in phase 2.

A TCS spokesperson said, “We are resuming operations in a phased manner in select offices with minimal capacity. Guidelines include awareness sessions for employees and vendors, self-declaration forms, alteration of workspace layout, and virtual collaboration tools for meetings. Other measures include temperature screening at all entry gates, use of hand sanitizers, periodic deep cleaning and disinfecting of office premises as also sanitizing all vehicles entering TCS premises,”

Another IT major, Wipro said it is adopting a staggered approach towards reopening offices. “During the initial phase, we expect only a small percentage of our workforce- less than 10%- to return to work from our facilities. These would be those who are engaged in projects that haven’t received approval for work from home from clients. We continue to adhere to WHO guidelines to make sure all the safeguard measures are in place.”

Indian IT majors like TCS has over 4 lakh employees, Infosys has nearly 2.5 lakh, while Wipro has 1.71 lakh employees.

A new model called 25/25 will require far less office space. The decision came after the firm briskly moved 90% of its workforce to an operating model called Secure Borderless Work Spaces, TCS said recently.

TCS said only 25% of its employees will need to work from its facilities by 2025 and that every employee can work without spending more than 25% of their time in a TCS office. Infosys, on the other hand, believes that while some work will be done from home, it’s also crucial to work from office to build social capital.

“We were able to work remotely because of the social capital that various teams have built from years of working together in the office. They know and trust each other. While it is important to continue working from home till there is a medical breakthrough, once things are better we should look at rebuilding social capital. Underestimating the value of that will cause problems for companies,” Salil Parekh told media.
