Top IT Companies’ Observations on “Productivity in Work From Home Setting”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most IT companies have given permission for professionals to work from home. IT and Tech majors are keen on making work from home seamless, engaging, and developing trust between their employees in a remote working environment.
The expectation from IT companies to make the process of remote working seamless is more than ever today. Companies can have a successful WFH practices if-
- Employees are equipped with the right hardware and software tools to perform their tasks.
- The organization has a digital adoption solution to enable its employees to navigate, utilize, and adapt their software.
- Managers and company leaders have access to software insights to assess software ROI, business success, and digital employee experience.
The COVID-19 lockdown offered companies an opportunity to evaluate the pros and cons of Work from Home from a relatively long-term perspective.
According to NASSCOM, India’s IT workforce accounts for 4.36 million employees and over 95% of them have moved to work from home model. And the good part is “this transition overnight has either increased productivity or left it unchanged.”
IT majors TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Tech Mahindra, and Microsoft believe that most of their employees will continue to work from home even after the pandemic is over because employees are now adjusted to the shift in the WFH and productivity has gone-up.
C Vijayakumar, CEO of HCL Technologies says that the company has not faced any major outages due to work from a home delivery model and productivity has, in fact, increased significantly. “We have realized that our employee productivity has gone up by 16-17%.”
Tech Mahindra has also stated that the productivity, creativity as well as delivery is at “all-time-high”. And it plans to move to 25% work from home permanently.
Recently, Infosys has announced that 33% of its employees will be permanently working from home. Richard Lobo, EVP, and Head HR at Infosys said, “Considering there has been no loss of productivity with remote working, we want to ensure that return to office is not rushed, and takes into account all elements of employee safety and wellbeing as well as business deliverables.”
Suresh Sambandam, CEO of KIssflow, a SaaS company said, “this may become a permanent move depending on the productivity assessment in 6 months. We will make a conscious effort to hire employees who will thrive in a remote work environment.”
Wipro is continuing to have a work arrangement for Employees to Work From Home (WFH) and it is keeping Work from Office (WFO) operations limited to less than 5% this quarter.
Microsoft, a key player in the industry and a company that provides online collaboration teams is of the view that productivity is different for everyone. “Our data shows that a more flexible workday created by remote work is allowing people to work when its best for them,” Saimik Roy, Country Head, Modern Workplace at Microsoft India said.
The statements passed and announcements made by representatives of the aforementioned companies are indicative of the fact that many companies might stick to ‘working from home’ in the future.
