Lenovo Cuts Tech Delays to Boost Team Performance

Lenovo has initiated a major transformation in how it equips its global workforce, rolling out AI-ready devices through its internal deployment of the TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS) model.

With over 77,000 employees across more than 100 countries, the company recognized the need to modernize its device management system to better support its predominantly knowledge-based workforce.

The goal: reduce inefficiencies, improve employee experience, and enable faster access to high-performance technology.

Legacy Challenges and the Need for Change at Lenovo

Previously, Lenovo relied on a custom-built tool called the Global Asset Management System (GAMS) to manage device requests and replacements.

However, GAMS proved difficult for non-finance users to navigate, often requiring IT teams to intervene.

The process was slow—taking up to six weeks to deliver and configure new devices—and frequently led to unreturned hardware, increasing licensing and management costs.

Sophia Wang, Advisory IT Specialist and DaaS Manager for PRC at Lenovo, noted that in regions like Australia, employees avoided using GAMS altogether due to its complexity, relying instead on IT staff to place orders.

Embracing TruScale DaaS and the EaaS Platform

To address these issues, Lenovo adopted its own TruScale DaaS solution internally, building a new platform called Everything as a Service (EaaS).

This system streamlines the entire device lifecycle—from request and approval to delivery and return.

It also facilitates responsible recycling or reuse of decommissioned devices, aligning with Lenovo’s sustainability goals.

The EaaS platform integrates with Lenovo’s Customer Fulfillment Service (CFS) hubs, which configure and ship devices preloaded with essential software.

This approach has reduced deployment time by 98%, enabling employees to receive fully functional laptops within one day.

Deployment of AI-Ready ThinkPad T14s Gen 6

As part of the initiative, Lenovo has begun distributing Copilot+ enabled ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 laptops, its first AI-focused PCs.

These devices are designed to support AI-driven workflows such as predictive analytics, intelligent decision-making, and content creation.

Employees in the United States, Australia, and Singapore are among the first to receive these upgraded systems.

To ensure minimal disruption, Lenovo includes three years of premium on-site repair services, allowing quick resolution of technical issues without requiring device shipment.

Lenovo Financial and Environmental Impact

The internal rollout has delivered measurable financial benefits.

Lenovo is reclaiming unused software licenses, reducing manual configuration costs, and recovering up to 20% of device value through recycling.

These savings are being reinvested into better equipment and services.

Environmentally, the initiative supports Lenovo’s commitment to reducing electronic waste.

By encouraging timely returns and responsible disposal, the company is minimizing its ecological footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.
