Does WFH end? TCS, Wipro, Cognizant planning to resume ‘Return To Office’ from next month

Last week, Union Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has announced that full office attendance in the Central government offices shall be resumed from February 7, and employees, at all levels, will attend office without any exemption.

The Government said, that this decision was taken after a review of the pandemic situation and in view of the decline in the number of Covid cases as well as the decline in positivity rate.

On 8th February, Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao, Telangana’s director of public health and family welfare said that the Covid third wave has almost come to an end and people can start getting back to work from of office.

The third wave which began on December 28 and peaked on January 28 has since been on the decline. He further said, “it is time to remove the WFH and return to offices.”

As the Covid-19 third wave subsides, IT majors like Wipro, Cognizant, TCS, Infosys are planning to ask their employees to get ready to come back to the office by as early as next month.

As per the report, IT major, Wipro has asked managers and senior employees to return to the office by March 3, 2022. However, they will be called for two days a week for now.

Cognizant Technology Solutions will call its employees back to the office in April 2022. The company will ask associates to return to the office one day a week, beginning in April.

India’s second-largest IT Major, Infosys said in December it will open its offices to a larger share of employees in the next 3-4 months. The company expects a hybrid model in which approximately 40-50 per cent of employees are likely to work from office post subsequent phases of return to office.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said it has put out a comprehensive remote working policy that states mandatory work from the base location even if associates are working from home.

While announcing the Q3 Results, Milind Lakkad, Global CHRO, TCS has said on Return to Office plan, “In our last call, I had mentioned that we were preparing for a return to office for most of our employees by the start of this new year. As you all know, because of the current pandemic situation, we have temporarily put that plan on hold, and we will recalibrate our timelines,”

“We will be closely monitoring the evolving situation on the ground across our different locations before announcing our new return to work plans,” he had said on January 13.

“We remain committed to adopting our futuristic and path-breaking 25X25 model” TCS Global CHRO added.
