An American social media company, Twitter has a new major change Elon Musk has changed Twitter’s parental leave policy from 20 weeks to just 2 weeks.

According to a tweet by Kate Conger, a tech reporter from The New York Times, Twitter will now offer only two weeks of paid parental leave, down from 20 weeks (four months).

The post said, “Twitter used to offer employees 20 weeks of paid parental leave. That’s being changed to whatever is required by law in the region where the employees work, along with a “top up” of two weeks of leave, per internal docs.”

The change in policy will impact employees working in parts of the United States which do not offer a paid leave policy. At present, 12 states in the US provide paid family and medical leave.

Additionally, Paid Leave for All also shared a post saying, “Seriously, 1 in 4 women have had to return to work less than two weeks after giving birth. 3 in 4 workers have no paid leave through work at all. It will take you less than 2 minutes to sign the petition to #PassPaidLeave and change this.”

Elon Musk has taken various steps for the Twitter post he took over the company. Earlier, Musk had sent frequently sends late-night emails announcing new company policies. Earlier In November, he first told Twitter employees said remote work will no longer be allowed and employees will be expected to be in the office for at least 40 hours per week, subject to exceptions by his approval.

Elon Musk emailed his workers to prepare them for “difficult times ahead.” He said there was “no way to sugarcoat the message” about the economic outlook and how it will affect an advertising-dependent company like Twitter.

Recently, Twitter has also shut two out of three Twitter India offices. The company has told its staff to work from home. The main focus is to shut down offices around the world as part of an effort to get Twitter financially stable by late 2023.
