AP‑AICTE Summer Internship Programme, a Nationwide Initiative

In a move to strengthen industry–academia collaboration and boost student employability, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE), has unveiled the AP‑AICTE Summer Internship Programme.

This nationwide initiative provides over three lakh undergraduate students across India with access to paid, stipend-based, and certification-only internships through a dedicated online portal.

A fresh push under national guidelines

The new Summer Internship Program aligns closely with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines and AICTE’s mission under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

At the core of the launch are orientation sessions led by APSCHE Chairman Prof. K. Madhu Murthy and AICTE COO Dr. Budha Chandrasekhar, emphasizing the importance of registering with APAAR IDs—a crucial step for students before applying.

How it works

Students and institutes can log into the AP‑AICTE Summer Internship dashboard, created as a central platform to filter and apply for opportunities by stipend type, field, duration, and more. This unified approach aims for fair, accessible, and transparent placement for aspiring interns.

Wide-ranging partners offer rich internships

The initiative brings together top institutions such as IIT Madras, ISRO, the Department of Science & Technology (DST), ICSSR, and UGC, among others.

These partners provide internships across sectors like research, technology, social science, space, and more—spanning government labs, premier research centres, and academic institutions.

The bridge between academics and industry

The chief objective is to integrate theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. Students can secure credits, gain practical skills, and potentially convert internship roles into job offers.

AICTE’s existing Summer Internship framework suggests experiences lasting from 4–6 weeks to six months, ensuring a wide scope for learning and engagement.

AICTE’s policy outlines multiple payoffs for students—enhancing employable skills, report writing, communication, domain-specific technical abilities, and creating industry networks.

The internship portal went live in early May 2025. Students are urged to register with their APAAR IDs, browse suitable internship listings, and apply by the given deadlines.

Institutions are encouraged to support students in the application and track their progress through mentoring and record-keeping.

  • Choose internships aligned with academic goals and career interests.
  • Maintain daily logs and compile internship reports, as required by AICTE, to earn credits and certification.
  • Projects range from hands-on technical work (labs, field studies, software) to report-based or capacity-building roles.
  • Recognition comes in the form of AICTE-backed certificates, institutional credits, and in some cases, stipends up to ₹30,000 according to earlier listings.
