Ola Electric Mobility Limited, the electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has recently announced the resignation of two of its top executives, CTO Suvonil Chatterjee and CMO Anshul Khandelwal.

Both have cited personal reasons for their departure, which was formally accepted on December 27, 2024.

This development adds to a series of high-profile exits at the company, raising concerns about its leadership stability and future direction.

Ola Electric CTO and CMO’s Resignation

Suvonil Chatterjee, who joined Ola Electric in 2017 as Head of Design, played a pivotal role in the company’s product development.

He was promoted to Chief Product Officer in 2021 and later to the combined position of Chief Technology and Product Officer in 2022.

Suvonil’s leadership was instrumental in defining Ola Electric’s vision for electric transportation, including the development of key products such as Ola Krutrim and Ola Maps.

His resignation leaves a noticeable void in the leadership team, intensifying concerns over the company’s management stability as it navigates operational expansions and struggles with slumping sales.

Anshul Khandelwal, who joined Ola Electric in 2019, held the position of Head of Marketing and Revenue at Foodpanda before transitioning to Ola Foods and eventually climbing the ranks to become Chief Marketing Officer at Ola Electric.

Anshul expressed gratitude for the opportunities to contribute to Ola’s inspiring vision but cited personal reasons for his resignation.

His departure comes at a time when Ola Electric is aggressively pursuing growth, including the expansion of its retail and service network.

Recent Leadership Exodus

The resignations of Suvonil and Anshul are part of a broader trend of top-level departures at Ola Electric.

In recent months, several senior executives have left the organization, including the Chief People Officer N Balachandar and the Secretary and Compliance Officer Pramendra Tomar.

The company has also undergone significant restructuring efforts, impacting at least 500 employees.

This leadership crisis raises questions about Ola Electric’s ability to manage ongoing projects and address the operational challenges posed by its ambitious expansion plans.

The exodus of experienced personnel in critical areas such as engineering program management, product planning, and customer quality assurance could impact the company’s ability to maintain high standards in product development and customer service.

This, in turn, risks eroding consumer trust at a time when the electric two-wheeler market in India is becoming increasingly competitive.

Ola Electric’s CEO and founder, Bhavish Aggarwal, is under increasing pressure to stabilize the company and bring it back on track.
