‘Mind Your Health’: Infosys Flags Overwork in Hybrid Work Era

Infosys, India’s second-largest IT services firm, has issued a cautionary advisory to employees working remotely for extended hours.

The Bengaluru-headquartered company has begun sending personalized emails to employees whose average work hours exceed the company’s standard threshold, urging them to “mind their health” and maintain a balanced work-life schedule.

This initiative comes amid rising reports of health issues among young tech professionals, including stress-related ailments and cardiovascular risks, often linked to erratic work patterns and prolonged screen time.

Infosys Monitoring Work Hours: A Data-Driven Approach

Infosys has implemented a system to track remote work hours, flagging employees who consistently exceed the standard 9.15 hours per day, five days a week.

When such patterns are detected, the HR team sends out emails detailing:

  • The number of days worked remotely
  • Total hours logged
  • Average daily work hours

These emails are not punitive but advisory in tone, emphasizing the importance of taking regular breaks, communicating workload concerns, and disconnecting after work hours.

The Message: Health Is a Strategic Priority

The emails reviewed by media outlets carry a clear message: while Infosys appreciates employee dedication, sustained overwork can be detrimental to both personal health and long-term professional success.

One such email reportedly stated, “We understand that work demands and deadlines can sometimes lead to longer hours.

It added, “However, it is important to maintain a balanced work-life schedule to enhance productivity and overall happiness”.

Employees are encouraged to speak with their managers if they feel overwhelmed and to share responsibilities where possible.

Hybrid Work and the Return-to-Office Policy

This health advisory follows Infosys’ return-to-office policy introduced in November 2023, which mandates employees to work from the office for at least 10 days a month.

The hybrid model was designed to offer flexibility while fostering team collaboration.

However, it has also revealed new challenges—particularly the blurring of boundaries between work and personal life during remote days.
