Vedanta Limited has partnered with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, to launch a Basic Life Support (BLS) training programme aimed at equipping its employees with essential emergency response skills.
The initiative reflects Vedanta’s commitment to workplace safety and community resilience, and comes at a time when India is witnessing a surge in cardiovascular emergencies, particularly among younger populations.
The programme began with a three-day training session at Hindustan Zinc’s Rajpura Dariba Complex (RDC) in Udaipur, focusing initially on women leaders from across Vedanta’s businesses.
The company plans to extend the training to all employees in a phased manner.
Training Modules Led by NDRF Experts for Vedanta Employees
Expert trainers from the NDRF conducted hands-on sessions covering a range of life-saving techniques, including:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED) usage
- Bleeding and shock management
- Musculoskeletal injury care
- Patient shifting protocols
These modules are designed to prepare employees to act swiftly and effectively during medical emergencies, both at the workplace and in their personal lives.
Vedanta Leadership Perspective: Safety as a Core Value
Speaking at the inauguration, Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson of Hindustan Zinc Ltd. and Non-Executive Director of Vedanta Ltd., emphasized the importance of embedding safety into the company’s culture.
“At Vedanta, safety is not just a policy, it is who we are. Through this programme, we aim to equip all our employees with life-saving skills that extend beyond the workplace into their homes and communities,” she said.
She added that starting with women leaders helps create a multiplier effect, as each trained participant becomes a role model capable of protecting lives during critical emergencies.
