HCL Technologies plans to hire 20,000 freshers globally this year

IT major, HCL Technologies Limited plans to hire more people from tier-2 and tier-3 cities, as the company plans to bring jobs nearer to employees’ location as per its 5 years old strategy.

However, currently, 87% of workfoce do not belong to the cities where they are workining.

Commenting on the strategy Apparao V.V., Chief Human Resources Officer, HCL, said to media, “By bringing jobs closer to Talent, people don’t have to travel, leaving their families behind. For us, the cost is not the primary driver. Stability is the bigger advantage,”

“We will hire more in tier-2 and tier-3 cities,” Apparao said.

By reason of implementing this strategy, the company has established a campus each in Lucknow, Madurai, Nagpur and Vijayawada.

In the month of February this year, HCL Technologies had announced plans to add up to 1,000 employees each in Vijayawada and Nagpur.

Currently, the company employs 6,000 people each in Lucknow and Madurai and about 3,000 people each in Nagpur and Vijayawada.

Recently, HCL Technologies also announced its plans to increase the share of freshers in its annual hiring numbers to 70% over the coming years as it looks to focus on onboarding people with new-age skills.

“In 2020-21, 40% of the people hired by the company were freshers and 60% lateral hires. We want to change this in the next couple of years. We really want to go to 70% freshers and 30% lateral hire,” Apparao V.V. said.

“The reason is that most of the skills that are required in the projects that we are winning and executing are new-age skills,” he added.

HCL Technologies plans to hire 20,000 freshers globally this year. In 2020-21, this number stood at about 14,500 freshers.

Currently, company’s total headcount is 168,977 till March 31, 2021.
