According to the survey, about 55 percent of Indian company recruiters struggle to find skilled developers from the LGBTQ+ work group.

TechGig’s survey also asked about the popular mediums to hire these developers, and most (52% of respondents) said that they turn to regular job boards and sites to hire LGBTQ+ developers.

According to ‘Gender Diversity Survey 2022’ the attrition rate among this group is higher when compared to their male and female counterparts.

Highest attrition among developers from the Rainbow group

The TechGig survey asked about the attrition trends among the LGBTQ+ developers v/s the job drop-out among other genders.

Findings on LGBTQ+ developers

  • The survey was performed on 568 technical staff from companies. According to the respondents 69 percent are working in the IT / Telecom sector.
  • 41 percent of respondents said that attrition is higher among them as compared to the male and female programmers.
  • About 33 percent of respondents found no difference in the attrition levels based on genders, and the remaining 26 percent said that more men and women developers tend to leave jobs more often than the LGBTQ+ developers.
  • 77% of tech firms go out of their way to retain them.
  • About 19% of respondents said they scouted pride communities, and an equal amount of respondents said that they ask for referrals when hiring them.
  • The rest, 10%, of respondents said they launched special advertisements for hiring these developers.
  • The finding also revealed that the tech companies were putting in extra efforts to retain developers from the queer group.
  • The unanimous answer was ‘yes’ with 77 percent votes. Only 23 percent of respondents answered ‘no’ to this question.

TechGig, a community of software developers, studied the hiring and employee engagement patterns for LGBTQ+ developers at tech companies.
