Huawei Technologies will double staff salaries and pay bonuses for helping the Company cope with US sanctions that threaten its smartphone and other businesses.

The announcement told employees the bonuses were to “thank you for your efforts” since US curbs on technology sales to Huawei were announced in May.

Zheng Liangcai, Huawei’s HR Head, wrote to staff “The company has decided to hand out a ‘Special Award for Struggles’ to all employees, who have made contributions to our coping with the U.S. sanctions,”

With a few exceptions for bad performance or violating company rules, employees will receive double their October base salary, to be paid by the end of November, Zheng added.

The larger bonus goes to employees in chip production, research and development, and manufacturing-related jobs.

According to Nikkei Asian Review. In 2019, the company and all employees were, and are, facing extraordinarily external challenges, as China’s Huawei Technologies was added to US restrictions List in May 2019, as the US Department of Commerce believes that “Huawei is engaged in activities that are contrary to US national security or foreign policy interest”.

The List, published by the US Department of Commerce, contains a list of certain foreign persons – which includes businesses, research institutions, governments, and individuals – that are subject to licence requirements for the export, re-export, and transfer of certain items to the country. Essentially, the list represents a list of companies that the US believes poses a national threat.

The List is over 270-pages long and lists companies and individuals from a range of countries including Russia, China, Ukraine, Iran, and even the UK.
