Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a leading engineering and construction conglomerate, has announced the promotion of Subramanian Sarma to the position of Deputy Managing Director and President.

Effective April 2, 2025, this elevation marks a significant milestone in Subramanian’s illustrious career and underscores L&T’s commitment to strengthening its leadership team.

Subramanian, who has been a member of L&T’s board since 2015, previously served as Whole-time Director and President of the company’s energy vertical.

L&T Leadership Endorsements

S.N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director of L&T, praised Subramanian’s contributions.

He stated, “Mr. Sarma has been instrumental in transforming our hydrocarbon and energy businesses, driving innovation, operational excellence, and global competitiveness.”

Subrahmanyan added, “His elevation is well deserved, and I am confident that his leadership will further strengthen L&T’s growth trajectory.”

Expressing his gratitude, Subramanian remarked, “I am honored to take on this new role at a time when L&T is witnessing strong growth and expansion.”

He added, “I thank the CMD and L&T’s Board Members for their continued trust. I look forward to contributing to the company’s long-term vision and creating sustainable value for stakeholders.”

A Proven Leader in the Energy Sector

Subramanian Sarma’s tenure at L&T has been marked by transformative leadership and remarkable achievements.

Under his guidance, L&T’s energy portfolio has emerged as a global leader in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services.

The company has ranked among the top three EPC contractors in the Middle East’s oil and gas sector. It has maintained this position for four consecutive years.

Subramanian’s strategic vision and operational excellence have been instrumental in securing substantial contracts from major entities, including Saudi Aramco.

In his new role, Subramanian will continue to oversee L&T’s energy business, which encompasses hydrocarbon, power, and green manufacturing sectors.

His leadership is expected to drive innovation, enhance global competitiveness, and contribute to L&T’s long-term growth trajectory.

Subramanian holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai.

With over four decades of experience, including three decades in the Middle East, he has worked across the oil and gas industry’s value chain in various geographies.

Before joining L&T, Subramanian served as Managing Director of a major EPC company, further solidifying his expertise in the sector.

Strategic Implications for L&T

Subramanian’s promotion comes at a time when L&T is experiencing robust growth and expansion.

The company reported a 14% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the quarter ending December 31, 2024. This increase amounted to ₹3,359 crore.

Consolidated revenues for the same period reached ₹64,668 crore. This reflects a 17% year-on-year growth, fueled by a robust order book and enhanced execution momentum.

L&T’s international revenues, which constituted 51% of the total revenues, highlight the company’s global reach and competitiveness.

Subramanian’s leadership is expected to further bolster L&T’s position in the global energy market and drive sustainable growth.
