Walmart IDC Appoints Priya Cherian as Head- HR

Walmart India Development Centre (IDC) has appointed Priya Cherian as its new Head of Human Resources (HR), effective January 2025.

In this role, Priya will lead the company’s HR strategy to drive growth and innovation across its India operations.

Role at Walmart IDC

In her new role at Walmart IDC, Priya will oversee critical HR functions, including talent management, leadership development, and fostering a strong company culture.

She will partner with Balu Chaturvedula and leaders across the team to ensure Walmart is a place where associates can grow great careers, prioritize well-being, and know they belong.

Priya Cherian brings over two decades of extensive HR leadership experience to her new role.

Before joining Walmart IDC, she served as the Global Head of HR at PayU, where she successfully led HR functions across India, Latam, EMEA, and SEA.

Her contributions included leadership development, M&A activities, and regulatory compliance initiatives across diverse regions.

Career Progression and Educational Background

Priya’s career journey includes impactful roles at various organizations.

She was the HR Head – APAC & Middle East at Alibaba.com, where she played a pivotal role in scaling operations across 19 countries, including Singapore, Taiwan, and India.

Earlier in her career, she served as the Director of Human Resources at Flipkart, where she worked closely with the founder to formalize and drive the talent strategy for eKart.

Her educational background has equipped her with the skills needed to navigate complex HR challenges and drive organizational growth.
