Wipro may skip salary hikes for top performers

As per the media reports, it is expected that Wipro may skip salary hikes for top performers with higher compensation packages in the upcoming round of salary increases effective by December 1.

According to Reuters, Nagendra Bandaru, managing partner and president of the “Enterprise Futuring” business line told employees in an e-mail, “We are doing a selective MSI (merit salary increases) rollout based on our business affordability.”   

Earlier, Wipro had postponed the salary hike of its employees to the 3rd quarter, the salary hike given in September last year was postponed to the October-December quarter this year.

Wipro has recently ended work from Home and employees are required to report to the office three days a week, effective November 15, 2023.

Wipro’s Chief Human Resources Officer Saurabh Govil to its employees, said, “Starting November 15, all employees must be present at their assigned office location for at least three days each week.”

“This change aims to enhance teamwork, facilitate face-to-face interactions, and strengthen Wipro’s culture,” the mail added.

The company earlier said that it would honour past offers before going to campuses to hire freshers. Moreover, To fast-track onboarding more than 90% of the freshers have accepted lower salary options.

The company has reduced the employee’s salary by 50 percent from Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh per annum.

Wipro’s headcount has dropped further by 5,015 in the July-September quarter of fiscal 2023-24 (Q2FY24).

The total headcount now stands at 2,44,707 employees and the attrition rate has dropped further to 15.5 percent, compared to 17.3 percent in the preceding April-June quarter. The total employee count at Wipro in the previous quarter was experienced 249,758.
