In a deeply distressing incident, a 23-year-old IT engineer, Piyush Ashok Kawade, died by suicide on July 28, 2025, at the Atlas Copco campus located in Hinjewadi IT Park, Pune.

According to police reports, Piyush jumped from the seventh floor of the company building around 10:30 AM, shortly after excusing himself from a meeting, citing chest pain.

Piyush, originally from Nashik, had been working with Atlas Copco for approximately one and a half years.

He was residing in Wakad, a suburb of Pune, and had reported to work as usual that morning.

Suicide Note and Initial Findings

A handwritten suicide note was recovered at the scene, addressed to Piyush’s father.

In the note, he expressed deep regret and a sense of personal failure, stating that he “did not deserve to be his son” and apologizing for taking the extreme step.

The note did not mention any workplace-related stress or professional grievances.

Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare of the Hinjewadi Police Station confirmed that a case of accidental death has been registered.

Authorities are currently investigating all possible angles, including reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with colleagues to understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Company Statement and Support Measures

In response to the tragedy, Atlas Copco Group issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their employee.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and loved ones at this time,” said Christina Hagerstrand, Media Relations Manager at Atlas Copco.

The company also confirmed that it is offering support to both the bereaved family and coworkers affected by the incident.

Mental Health in the Tech Industry: A Growing Concern

While the suicide note did not reference work-related stress, the incident has reignited conversations around mental health challenges faced by young professionals in India’s fast-paced tech sector.

Experts have long pointed to the need for proactive mental health support, especially in high-pressure environments like IT parks.

The tragedy has led to renewed calls for corporate action. Many believe companies should strengthen their employee wellness programs.

There is also a push to improve access to counseling services.

In addition, organizations are being urged to foster a culture where mental health concerns can be discussed openly.

IT Engineer Suicide: Police Investigation and Next Steps

The Pimpri Chinchwad Police are continuing their investigation.

No foul play is suspected at this point. However, officials have confirmed they will investigate all possible triggers, including personal and professional circumstances.

A postmortem has been conducted, and the family has been informed.
