Husk Power Systems, a pioneering clean energy company, has achieved a significant milestone by doubling its workforce to 1000 employees across India and Africa.

This expansion comes on the heels of a successful $103 million Series D financing round in October 2023. Check here for the details of this remarkable achievement and its implications for rural green energy job creation.

Husk Power Systems Journey to 1000 Employees

Since its inception, Husk Power Systems has been committed to providing sustainable energy solutions to rural and peri-urban communities in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Husk has hired 100% local staff in its markets of operation, emphasizing community engagement and empowerment. The company has also prioritized gender equity, making it a central focus in its organizational development.

The workforce has grown tenfold since 2018, a testament to Husk’s impact in regions where traditional farming has been the primary occupation for generations.

Currently, Husk is adding 50 new jobs per month, with plans to increase this number to 60 by Q4 2024.

In May, Husk launched the Helios management trainee program, recruiting future industry leaders from top MBA programs. This initiative aims to groom the next generation of minigrid industry experts.

Husk’s impact extends beyond energy provision. By creating jobs in economically challenged and climate-vulnerable regions, the company is fostering a 5X multiplier effect on local GDP.

Their energy infrastructure investments are transforming communities and providing high-tech opportunities where they are needed most.

The Larger Context

The World Bank estimates that 160,000 minigrids are necessary to provide electricity to 380 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa.

India, too, presents immense potential for minigrids, offering an opportunity to create tens of thousands of jobs.

Husk’s commitment to green jobs and talent attraction led to its certification by Amazing Workplaces in India. CEO Manoj Sinha was also recognized as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Climate Leaders in Business.
