Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing to roll out its most significant digital upgrade to date—EPFO 3.0.

Designed to make provident fund services faster, more transparent, and accessible, the new platform will benefit over 8 crore EPF subscribers across India.

Once launched, EPFO 3.0 will allow members to withdraw funds directly via ATMs and Unified Payments Interface (UPI), marking a major shift from the current claim-based system.

The initiative is being developed in collaboration with leading IT firms including Infosys, Wipro, and TCS.

Although the rollout was initially scheduled for June 2025, it was delayed due to technical testing.

Officials now confirm that the platform is in its final stages and will be launched shortly.

Key Features of EPFO 3.0

The EPFO 3.0 upgrade introduces several user-centric features aimed at improving convenience and reducing administrative delays.

Here are five major benefits:

1. Direct PF Withdrawals via ATMs

Members will be able to withdraw their provident fund savings directly from ATMs, similar to regular bank transactions.

To access this feature, users must activate their Universal Account Number (UAN) and link their Aadhaar with their bank account.

This feature will particularly help during emergencies by offering instant access to funds without paperwork.

2. Instant UPI-Based Withdrawals

In line with India’s growing digital payments ecosystem, EPFO 3.0 will enable UPI-based withdrawals.

Members can use UPI apps to access their PF funds in real time, eliminating the need for lengthy claim processes.

This integration aligns with the government’s Digital India mission and promotes financial inclusion.

3. Simplified Online Claims and Corrections

The new platform will allow members to update personal details and file claims online using OTP authentication.

This removes the need to visit EPFO offices for minor corrections or claim tracking.

The system will also support real-time status updates, making the process more transparent.

4. Faster Settlement of Death Claims

EPFO 3.0 simplifies the claim process for nominees in the event of a member’s death.

Notably, EPFO will no longer require guardianship certificates for minors, enabling families to receive financial support more quickly during difficult times.

5. Mobile-Friendly Dashboard and Real-Time Access

The upgraded platform will feature a redesigned, mobile-first dashboard. Members can view their PF balance, contributions, and claim status anytime, anywhere.

This interface will reduce dependency on physical offices and improve user experience.

How the System Will Work

Reports suggest that EPFO 3.0 will finalize operational details and issue PF withdrawal cards linked to members’ accounts.

These cards may function like debit cards, allowing withdrawals up to a certain percentage of the PF balance.

EPFO will ensure safety and compliance in UPI transactions by using Aadhaar-based verification and secure PINs.

To be eligible, members must:

  • Activate their UAN
  • Link Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account details
  • Ensure mobile numbers are updated and linked to UAN
