Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has reported a significant milestone in February 2025, with 15.43 lakh new workers enrolling under the ESI Scheme.

This surge in registrations highlights the growing reach of social security benefits and reflects positive trends in formal employment across India.

The provisional payroll data released by ESIC underscores the scheme’s inclusivity and its role in strengthening the nation’s workforce.

ESI Scheme: Key Highlights of February 2025 Enrollment

The data reveals that out of the total 15.43 lakh new registrations, approximately 47.7%—amounting to 7.36 lakh employees—belong to the age group of up to 25 years.

This indicates a robust entry of young individuals into the organized labor market.

Additionally, strides in gender inclusivity were evident, with 3.35 lakh female employees enrolling under the scheme.

The scheme also registered 74 transgender employees, showcasing ESIC’s commitment to extending benefits to diverse demographics.

Expansion of Social Security Coverage Under ESI Scheme

In February 2025, ESIC brought 23,526 new establishments under the social security ambit of the ESI Scheme.

This expansion ensures that more workers across various industries gain access to essential benefits such as medical care, disability compensation, and maternity support.

The total number of employees who paid contributions during the month rose to 2.97 crore, marking an increase of over 5.66 lakh contributors compared to February 2024.

Inclusivity and Workforce Development

The gender-wise analysis of the payroll data highlights ESIC’s efforts to promote inclusivity in the workforce.

The enrollment of female and transgender employees reflects a broader push towards equitable access to social security benefits.

By addressing the needs of diverse groups, ESIC is fostering a more inclusive and supportive work environment.

Provisional Data and Continuous Growth

The payroll data released by ESIC is provisional, as data generation is an ongoing exercise.

However, the figures indicate a positive trajectory in formal employment and social security coverage in India.

The significant youth enrollment suggests a growing trend of young individuals entering the organized labor market, while the increased participation of women and transgender individuals points to broader inclusivity in employment practices.
