Tata Group-owned, Air India is on a hiring spree. The company will be hiring over 4,200 cabin crew trainees and 900 pilots in 2023.

Air India, which currently has a fleet of 140 planes, will buy 470 aircraft from Boeing and Airbus. Recently, the Airline will require more than 6,500 pilots to operate 470 aircraft that are to be supplied by Airbus and Boeing in the coming years.

There are currently 1,600 pilots working for the airline to fly its 113 aircraft, but there have recently been incidents of ultra-long distance flights being cancelled or delayed due to a staff shortage.

According to Reuters reports, the company will also provide a 15-week training program to the cabin crew. The training program will include:-

  • Extensive classroom training.
  • In-flight training at the airline’s training facility in Mumbai and familiarisation flights.

AI’s Head for Inflight Service Sandeep Verma said, “With a sizeable aircraft order that was announced earlier in the month, more flights on international and domestic networks, and re-alignment of domestic routes with AIX connect, cabin crew will play a decisive role in shaping the present and future of the Air India group.”

“The addition of fresh talent will also accelerate the pace of cultural transformation at Air India, which is an integral part of our Vihaan.AI transformation program”, he added.

He further added, “We are also looking to step up hiring of more pilots and maintenance engineers.”

Along with a comprehensive set of aviation services, Air India is advancing its fleet strategy to sustainably address South Asia’s rapidly growing market for domestic and international air travel. Earlier, in December 2022 the airline had put in place an ethics governance structure and is also establishing committees at the apex and regional levels.

The purpose of these committees is to bolster the ethics culture at the airline. These regional committees will be responsible for building a “positive ethics culture” through continuous engagement, communication, and ethics training.
