Telecom services provider, Airtel will set up a new technology centre in Pune for driving its digital services in the Western region.

To take the move ahead, the telecom company is looking to hire nearly 500 digital engineering professionals by the end of this fiscal. The hiring process will be from engineering colleges including IITs, NITS, and IIITs for its digital technology centres.

In addition to this, the top global talent will be from Silicon Valley and domestic start-ups. The hiring will be for digital engineering professionals.

The company will be hiring professionals for data, machine learning, dev ops, tech ops, etc.

Airtel currently has technology hubs in Gurgaon, Bengaluru, and Noida. Also, employs around 3,000 professionals. This will be the company’s fourth digital technology hub in India to support its strategy to transform into a digital services firm.

Airtel’s chief information officer Pradipt Kapoor said the company is enhancing its talent pool to support its dream of becoming a digital telecommunication company. He said that the company has chosen Pune as it is an IT and tech hub.

Setting up its base in Pune will mean it can have access to the talent poll and can undertake cross-industry collaboration.

Pradipt said, “As an established IT and Tech Centre, Pune is a logical choice for Airtel to tap into the talent pool and foster cross-industry collaboration.”

Over the last few years, more and more people are subscribing to OTT platforms.

The company has launched several digital assets like the Airtel Thanks app, Wynk Music app, and the Airtel Xstream, which have over 180 million users.

Airtel’s digital offerings also include C-PaaS solution Airtel IQ and Ad-tech platform Airtel Ads along with Airtel IoT.
