Hitachi is expanding in India with new global capability centers, meeting rising energy demand and supporting the country’s push for increased renewable energy generation.

Zurich-based Hitachi Energy operates a Global Capability Center (GCC) in India, producing transformers and large-scale power transmitters. The country’s high power demand has prompted increased government efforts in renewable energy generation.

“We are considering Hyderabad and Pune for our GCC expansion. The process may take six months to one year,” stated Venu Nuguri, CEO of Hitachi Energy’s India unit.

Nuguri noted, “The center could be in either or both cities depending on demand,” refraining from disclosing financial investment details.

Nuguri explained, “The new GCC, acting as a low-cost offshore facility, will complement Hitachi Energy India but operate under a distinct non-listed Indian entity of Hitachi Energy in Switzerland.” He highlighted India’s government incentives for green energy transition, aiming for 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

This initiative aims to attract talent globally, allowing individuals to join the company’s workforce regardless of geographical location.
