Recently, an American multinational technology company, Amazon has banned its employees from using Generative AI Tools like Chat-GPT.

This is not the first company that has waned its employees for not using Generative AI-related Tools. Previously JPMorgan Chase, Samsung, and Apple were some big league names that were banned from using ChatGPT and similar tools.

As per India Today, in an email Amazon has spread the message including, “While we may find ourselves using GenAl tools, especially when it seems to make life easier, we should be sure not to use it for confidential Amazon work.”

“Don’t share confidential Amazon, customer, or employee data when using 3rd party GenAl tools. Generally, confidential data would be data that is not publicly available”, the email added.

Other companies that banned ChatGPT earlier

In May 2023, Samsung banned its employees from using ChatGPT & other AI tools. The new policy has been communicated to staff at one of Samsung’s through a memo.

The memo sent by Samsung read, “We ask that you diligently adhere to our security guidelines and failure to do so may result in a breach or compromise of company information resulting in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.”

Samsung’s memo to employees read, “Interest in generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT has been growing internally and externally. While this interest focuses on the usefulness and efficiency of these platforms, there are also growing concerns about security risks presented by generative AI.”

In February 2023, JPMorgan Chase restricted employees from using ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, as the buzzy AI chatbot exploded in popularity.

Starting from May 2023, Apple restricted its employees from utilizing ChatGPT and other AI tools due to concerns regarding the potential disclosure of confidential product information. This decision is driven by Apple’s ongoing development of its comparable technology.
