India’s leading IT sector is currently grappling with significant delays in onboarding new employees, especially fresh graduates.

The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), an IT employee union, has highlighted this issue with recent data.

According to NITES, approximately 10,000 freshers who were extended job offers over the past two years are still awaiting their official start dates with IT companies as reported by the Times of India.

These delays are causing considerable concern among the affected freshers, who had anticipated starting their careers soon after graduation.

Instead, they are left in a state of uncertainty, impacting their financial stability and professional growth. The prolonged waiting period is also raising questions about the recruitment and onboarding processes within these IT firms.

“The year before last, we went to campus and made many offers. We are yet to honour those. We will finish those offers and then hire new freshers. We will induct freshers this year, but we cannot give a number as the macro environment is uncertain,” Wipro CHRO Saurabh Govil had said as quoted by TOI.

Headcount Decrease

Apart from the delay in the onboarding of fresh graduates, IT companies have witnessed a decrease in the employee headcount.
