On Thursday, Indian multinational ride-sharing company Ola said that it is planning to hire 10,000 people to ramp up its vehicle commerce platform Ola Cars over the next year.

Ola Cars CEO Arun Sirdeshmukh said in a statement that these appointments will be done across key areas such as sales and service centres. He also claimed that the company has sold 5,000 pre-owned cars in its first full month of operation.

Ola Cars has started pre-owned vehicle sales in the metro cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. It will expand to Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Indore by the end of this week.

As part of Ola Cars, Ola is also setting up service centres across the country. As part of its future plans, Ola said it will open this platform up for new vehicles from other automotive brands as well.

Over the next two months, the platform aims to be operational in 30 cities and expand to 100 cities by next year as it eyes a $2 billion gross merchandise value for its vehicle commerce platform

Ola Cars was launched last month. It is vehicle commerce platform that will enable customers to buy new and pre-owned vehicles through the Ola app. As part of its longer-term plans, Ola will open this platform up for new vehicles from other automotive brands as well.
