Gujarat government is facilitating the development of 1,500 residential units in Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) to accommodate employees and suppliers of Tata Electronics, which is constructing India’s first semiconductor fabrication unit.

This initiative aims to support the ₹91,000 crore fab project, expected to generate over 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs.

Current Housing Availability and Future Expansion of Tata Electronics

At present, 275 apartments are available, with 250 already occupied by Tata Group employees, suppliers, and ecosystem companies.

An additional 225 units are nearing completion.

To meet growing demand, construction has begun on 1,000 more apartments, expected to be ready by February–March 2026.

These units will be serviced apartments, offering one, two, or three-bedroom configurations.

Tata Group’s Independent Housing Plans

Apart from the government-facilitated housing, Tata Group is developing its own residential facilities.

In the first phase, 10 acres have been allotted for 530 apartments, scheduled for completion by mid-2027.

Infrastructure and Amenities for Employees

To support the growing workforce, the Gujarat government is investing in essential infrastructure, including:

  • Fire station
  • School and hospital
  • Desalination plant
  • Hotel and high-end mall
  • Global Tent City, featuring food streets from Taiwan, Korea, Japan, the US, and Europe

This initiative aims to replicate the home-country experience for expats working at the fab, ensuring a comfortable living environment.

Tata Electronics’ Semiconductor Expansion

Tata Electronics is aggressively hiring top executives from leading semiconductor firms like Intel and GlobalFoundries.

Recent appointments include:

  • Tim McIntosh (Intel) as VP and Head of Operations
  • KC Ang (GlobalFoundries) as President and Head of Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing

These hires reflect Tata’s ambition to position itself as a global semiconductor leader.
