As the COVID cases reached almost nil, Tech companies have ended Work From Home and started calling their employees to Work From Office. IT and Tech companies revised their remote working policies.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has ended the hybrid work policy and asked its employees to work from the office 5 days a week from October 1, 2023 onwards. Those employees who don’t comply with the rules will face disciplinary action.

Recently, in December 2003, Infosys instructed employees to work from the office (WFO) at least three days a week.

An email was sent to employees from the vertical heads, “Please start coming to the office at least 3 days a week. It will become mandatory very shortly.”  It further clarified that except for medical reasons, employees are expected to resume regular office attendance.

Earlier in November, Infosys mandated WFO for employees categorized under Brand 5 and 6, encompassing mid-level managers, and entry-level staff. They were asked to work for a minimum of 10 days each month from office from November 20, 2023.

After TCS, Infosys, IT giant Wipro, and HCLTech have also asked their employees to come to office and work at least three days a week.

C Vijayakumar, CEO and Managing Director, HCLTech said “Continuously working away from the office is not a good idea at all. He said that the company is giving some flexibility to the employees on what these three days will be.”

Wipro has ended work from Home and employees are required to report to the office three days a week, effective from November 15, 2023.

Wipro’s Chief Human Resources Officer Saurabh Govil to its employees, said, “Starting November 15, all employees must be present at their assigned office location for at least three days each week.”

“This change aims to enhance teamwork, facilitate face-to-face interactions, and strengthen Wipro’s culture,” the mail added.

Recently, Amazon has also warned employee promotions may be impacted if they don’t Return to office.

According to a CNN report, and the internal memo of the company, “Managers own the promotion process, which means it is their responsibility to support your growth through regular conversations and stretch assignments, and to complete all required inputs for a promotion.”

“If your role is expected to work from the office 3+ days a week and you are not in compliance, your manager will be made aware and VP approval will be required,” the internal memo added.

Why Work From Office?

In-person work fosters collaboration, effective communication, and a sense of community among team members. Face-to-face interactions promote spontaneous idea exchange, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of colleagues.

It enhances creativity, social connections, and workplace culture, contributing to a more engaged and motivated workforce. Personal interactions build trust and strengthen professional relationships, leading to increased productivity and job satisfaction.

The physical presence at the workplace facilitates immediate problem-solving and ensures a cohesive, collaborative work environment.

On the other hand, remote working fosters flexibility, work-life balance, health, and happiness. It gives employees the freedom to manage their work schedules and personal commitments more effectively.

However, some companies like tech giants have decided to put an end to the WFH option but Hybrid Working Models will continue.
