Apply Now: DRDO-DIBT Biotech and Microbiology Internship

Defence Institute of Biodefence Technologies (DIBT), a specialized research center under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, has announced a six-month paid internship program for postgraduate students in Biotechnology and Microbiology.

The initiative is part of the Government of India’s broader effort to provide hands-on research exposure to students in cutting-edge scientific domains.

Internship Overview and Eligibility

The internship will be conducted offline at DIBT, Mysore, and is open to Indian nationals pursuing the final year of M.Tech or M.Sc. in Engineering or Science from recognized Indian universities or institutes during the academic year 2025–26.

There are two vacancies each in the disciplines of:

  • Biotechnology (BT)
  • Microbiology (MB)

Applicants must be below 28 years of age and possess a strong academic record, with 85% marks or a CGPA of 8.5 or above on a 10-point scale.

Nature and Structure of the Internship

The internship is designed to provide students with project-based training in biodefence technologies.

It will run for six months, starting August 1, 2025, and will be conducted entirely in offline mode at the DIBT campus in Mysore.

Interns will have to maintain a minimum of 15 working days of physical attendance per month.

Interns may take leave only for medical emergencies, and they must support it with a valid prescription.

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion, provided they submit a progress report after three months and a final project report at the end of the internship.

Stipend and Financial Terms

Interns will receive a stipend, paid in two installments:

  • First installment after completing three months
  • Final installment after completing the full six-month tenure

The stipend will be credited directly to the intern’s bank account.

However, boarding, lodging, transportation, and medical expenses are to be borne by the interns themselves. No reimbursement will be provided by DIBT.

Applications must include the following documents in a single PDF file:

  • Duly filled application form (Annexure A)
  • Copies of all previous mark sheets
  • Referral/permission letter from the college
  • Resume (under 300 words)
  • Undertaking form (Annexure C & D)
  • GATE/NET scorecard (if applicable)
  • Details of awards, publications, or memberships

The last date to apply is July 20, 2025, and selected candidates will be notified by July 25, 2025.

Terms and Conditions

Applicants must adhere to the Indian Official Secrets Act, 1923, and comply with all IT rules and regulations applicable to the Ministry of Defence.

Selected interns must submit:

  • Police verification certificate
  • Medical fitness certificate (from an MBBS-qualified doctor)
  • Original academic documents for verification
  • Aadhar and college ID cards
  • Three passport-size photographs

DIBT reserves the right to modify the selection criteria or number of vacancies at any stage.

Importantly, completion of the internship does not guarantee employment with DRDO or its affiliated organizations.
