India’s leading e-commerce platforms have launched one of the largest seasonal hiring campaigns in recent years, creating over 3.8 lakh temporary jobs across supply chain, logistics, customer service, and delivery operations.
The hiring spree comes in anticipation of a sharp rise in consumer demand during the upcoming festive season, which includes major events like Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali.
Companies such as Flipkart, Amazon, and Myntra are leading the effort, with staffing firms reporting a 20–25% increase in festive hiring compared to last year.
The surge reflects both early preparation and a broader shift in employment patterns, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
Flipkart Leads with Over 2.2 Lakh Seasonal Roles
Flipkart has announced the creation of more than 2.2 lakh seasonal jobs, making it the largest contributor to the festive hiring wave.
The company is also launching 650 new delivery hubs dedicated to festive operations, primarily in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
These roles span last-mile delivery, warehouse operations, and customer support.
“In the lead-up to the festive season, Flipkart is scaling employment opportunities, infrastructure, and tech deployments across 28 states,” the company said in a statement.
The hiring strategy emphasizes inclusive growth, with a focus on expanding reach in smaller towns and semi-urban regions.
Amazon Adds 1.5 Lakh Jobs Across 400+ Cities
Amazon India has created over 1.5 lakh seasonal work opportunities across its fulfilment centres, sort centres, and last-mile delivery stations.
The company has expanded its infrastructure by launching 12 new fulfilment centres and upgrading six existing ones.
Additionally, six new sortation facilities have been added in Hubli, Trivandrum, Rajpura, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, and Prayagraj.
These roles include both direct and indirect employment and cover major urban hubs such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Lucknow.
The hiring is aimed at ensuring timely deliveries and efficient order management during peak festive demand.
Myntra Adds 11,000 Jobs Through Partner Network
Fashion and lifestyle platform Myntra has added over 11,000 seasonal roles through its logistics and service partners.
These jobs support warehouse operations such as sorting, grading, and packing, and are spread across fulfilment centres in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi.
The company expects a significant increase in order volumes during its Big Fashion Festival, prompting early hiring to ensure operational readiness.
Tier-2 Cities Emerge as New Employment Hubs
Staffing firms such as Quess and TeamLease report a structural shift in festive hiring, with tier-2 cities like Jaipur, Coimbatore, Indore, and Nagpur emerging as vibrant employment centres.
Nitin Dave, CEO of Quess Staffing Solutions, noted a 53% jump in hiring demand between July and August, indicating early festive preparation.
“Delivery personnel remain in highest demand, making up close to 40% of festive hires,” said Balasubramanian A., Senior Vice President at TeamLease Services.
Warehouse workers account for 20%, followed by customer support executives (15%), retail floor staff (10%), and field technicians (8%).
Gig Work Gains Ground in Festive Economy
Over the past five years, festive gig hiring has grown rapidly, becoming a central feature of India’s seasonal economy.
While growth rates have moderated post-pandemic, the absolute number of jobs continues to rise, underscoring the importance of flexible, short-term employment in meeting consumer expectations.
The hiring mix remains heavily tilted toward logistics and delivery, reflecting the expansion of e-commerce and quick commerce models across the country.
