Khattar appeals to Gurgaon companies ‘Work From Home’

Haryana government has advised all companies operating in Gurugram to ask employees to work from home in the wake of the spreading Coronavirus till the end of March with immediate effect.

Gurugram is home to a sizable number of offices of large IT-BPO along with foreign technology bigwigs including the likes of Infosys, Genpact, Google, Microsoft and others which have huge operations in Gurugram, which is part of the National Capital Region.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, on Monday, appealed to all multinational companies (MNCs) based out of the city to allow all their employees to work from home.

“We have issued advisories banning mass gatherings and asking people to avoid unnecessary travel as precautionary measures. Likewise, I appeal to the management of all MNCs in Gurugram, especially IT companies as they can afford it, to restrict employees from coming to the office and give them an option to work-from-home,” said Khattar addressing the media in Gurugram

Khattar also visited the quarantine facility at the government-run postgraduate medical college in Sector 9. Additional quarantine facilities are also being set up in the city as international travelers who have been quarantined in India are likely to be housed here for 14 days, before they can leave for their home countries.

Sangeeta Gupta, Chief Strategy Officer at Nasscom said that the industry body has already sought clarification on it which only an “advisory”.

She also said, “It is advising companies to allow work from home as much as possible and companies are already taking steps to decongest their offices but some the critical functions have to continue.”

Google confirmed that the company has moved from “voluntary to recommended work from home” across all of its offices in the Asia Pacific including India.
