Ministry of Labour & Employment has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zomato to list nearly 2.5 lakh flexible job opportunities annually on the National Career Service (NCS) portal.
The partnership aims to strengthen India’s gig economy by connecting youth and women with structured, technology-enabled livelihoods.
Formalizing the Gig Economy
The MoU was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Labour and Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State Ms. Shobha Karandlaje, and Labour Secretary Ms. Vandana Gurnani.
Under the agreement, Zomato will list gig roles on the NCS portal.
These roles will primarily include delivery and logistics jobs under a newly created ‘Aggregator’ category.
This move will provide real-time access to income-generating opportunities for thousands of workers across India.
Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the importance of integrating platform economy roles into the formal employment system.
“NCS has become a vital bridge between job seekers and employers at the national and international level,” he said, highlighting the portal’s role in democratizing access to employment.
Scope and Impact of the Partnership with Zomato
The collaboration will generate nearly 2.5 lakh job opportunities every year, with a focus on youth and women in urban and semi-urban areas.
These roles will be accessible through the NCS portal, which currently serves as a digital interface for job seekers and employers across sectors.
The Ministry stated that the partnership supports the broader goals of the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana and the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
The initiative formalizes gig work and offers structured listings. It aims to improve job quality, transparency, and worker protections in the platform economy.
NCS Portal’s Growing Role
The National Career Service portal has emerged as a key employment platform.
It facilitates connections between job seekers and employers at both domestic and international levels.
The Ministry has signed over 14 similar MoUs in recent years.
Through these partnerships, it has helped mobilize more than 5 lakh job opportunities via the portal.
Zomato’s listings have been added under the Aggregator category on the portal.
This marks a new phase in its evolution and expands its reach into gig and platform-based employment.
Officials noted that they could replicate this model with other aggregators in the future to further scale job creation.
