Two-year child care leave allowed for single male govt employees

The Haryana government has approved amendments in Haryana Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 2016 allowing employees to take two-year (730 days) child care leave as per Hindustan Times report.

Child care leave has been granted to single male government employees. A female government employee can also avail child care leave for a maximum period of two years during the entire service to take care of her two eldest surviving children up to the age of 18 under the Rules.

Who can avail of two-year child care leave

  • A government-employed mother and single father of divyang children who are above 18 shall also be entitled to child care leave if the impairment of the child is more than 60% as per the impairment certificate issued by the competent authority.
  • Secondly, if the divyang child is completely dependent on a female government employee or a single male government employee.

The rule is applicable to the following

  • Single male government employees would be unmarried, widower, or legally divorced government employees.
  • According to the new Rule, A female government employee can also avail of childcare leave for a maximum period of two years during the entire service to take care of her two eldest surviving children up to the age of 18.

Child care leave has been granted to single male government employees, besides female government employees on the pattern of the Central government by amending Rule 46 of HCS (Leave) Rules, 2016.

How to Claim Child Care Leave in Central Government Services?

As per the Service Record, the employees (Male or Female) having minor children may be admissible Child Care Leave for rearing or any of their requirements like education, sickness, etc.
