Deloitte Mulls Job Cuts in Aberdeen Amid UK Internal Review

According to the Scottish Daily Press and Journal. Deloitte is reportedly considering job reductions at its Aberdeen office.

The firm, which employs around 460,000 people globally, confirmed that an “extremely small number” of local roles could be impacted.

While exact figures have not been disclosed, Deloitte stated that affected employees have already been briefed and are currently in a consultation period.

The Aberdeen office employs nearly 150 staff, and any reductions would form part of a broader review of Deloitte’s UK internal services teams.

UK Workforce and Redeployment Options

Deloitte employs approximately 24,000 people across the UK. As part of this process, the company is exploring options to redeploy some of the potentially affected employees to alternative roles within the business.

This approach is designed to minimize the overall impact of the restructuring exercise.

The development follows Deloitte’s move earlier this year into a new city centre office at the Silver Fin building, located at 455 Union Street, Aberdeen.

Leadership Changes in Aberdeen

In June 2025, Hazel Gray, a former Powis Academy pupil, was appointed as Deloitte’s Aberdeen office senior partner, succeeding Shaun Reynolds. Her leadership comes at a pivotal time as the company navigates both organizational change and local economic challenges.

Additionally, earlier this month, Deloitte named Garry Tetley as its new head of tax for Scotland. Tetley, who has been with the firm since 1997, will oversee a team of 130 tax professionals across Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.

Broader Job Cuts in the UK

The potential Aberdeen downsizing is not an isolated case. Deloitte has been restructuring its UK operations amid challenging market conditions.

In September 2023, the firm announced plans to cut 800 roles, followed by a further 180 redundancies in its UK advisory divisions in November of the same year.

At the time, Deloitte CEO Richard Houston explained that “some targeted restructuring” had put certain roles at risk of redundancy, highlighting the firm’s need to adapt to shifting market dynamics.

Expansion in Ireland

In parallel with the UK restructuring, Deloitte Ireland has been strengthening its advisory capabilities.

The firm recently appointed Dessie Kilkenny as the new managing director for real estate mergers and acquisitions, a move aimed at enhancing its services in real estate transactions.
