Oracle India Staff Face Layoff Fears as Project Emails Raise Alarm

Oracle India employees are grappling with growing unease following a series of project update emails that many interpret as precursors to layoffs.

The anxiety is particularly acute within the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) division, which has reportedly been hit hardest by recent job cuts.

While Oracle has not issued an official statement, multiple reports and employee accounts suggest that the company is undergoing a significant restructuring effort tied to its global shift toward artificial intelligence (AI) and cost optimization.

Oracle, which employs nearly 30,000 people in India, has seen a wave of layoffs in recent weeks, mirroring similar actions across its global offices in the US, Canada, and the Philippines.

Oracle OCI Division Bears the Brunt of Layoffs

The OCI unit—responsible for engineering, data center operations, and AI/ML functions—has been the focal point of the layoffs.

Employees in this division have reported abrupt terminations, often delivered via short Zoom calls.

One affected employee described the process as “cold and shocking,” stating that the call lasted less than 20 minutes and included a manager and HR representative who cited “business reasons” for the exit.

Another employee shared that their access was revoked immediately, and pending Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) were forfeited.

Severance packages varied, with some employees receiving four to eight months of compensation depending on tenure and role.

Project Update Emails Raise Alarm

What began as routine project updates has now become a source of stress for many Oracle India staff.

Employees report receiving vague emails about business realignment and role reviews, which are increasingly viewed as signals of impending layoffs.

These communications have led to speculation that further job cuts may be imminent, especially in cloud-related teams.

The company’s internal AI adoption metrics—such as usage tracking of AI tools—have also added pressure.

Employees are reportedly receiving automated emails detailing their AI tool usage as a percentage of their work, which some fear could be used as performance indicators.

Severance and Support Measures

Oracle has offered severance packages that include 15 days’ salary for each completed year of service.

These packages also provide medical insurance coverage for up to one year.

However, many employees feel the process lacks transparency and empathy.

Outplacement services have been made available, but the emotional toll of sudden exits remains high.

In one case, an employee from Oracle Financial Services Software (OFSS) was let go. The individual had served the company for more than 15 years.

The exit was described as unrelated to performance and attributed to “technological shifts” and cost-cutting measures.
