Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has partnered with Shell India to launch a Green Skills-focused Electric Vehicle (EV) training program.

This initiative is designed to equip students and faculty with the skills needed for green energy and e-mobility.

The program prepares them for the rapidly evolving EV industry, positioning them for future opportunities in the sector.

The program, implemented by Edunet Foundation, will be conducted across select Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

EV Training Program Structure and Training Modules

The DGT-Shell India collaboration follows a structured multi-tier model, offering different levels of training across various institutions:

  • Advanced EV Technician Course (240 hours) – Conducted at four NSTIs, focusing on EV systems, diagnostics, battery technology, and safety protocols.
  • Job-Oriented EV Skills Course (90 hours) – Available at 12 ITIs, featuring hands-on training in Shell-supported labs.
  • Foundational Green Skills Module (50 hours) – Offered at additional ITIs without physical labs, covering sustainability concepts and digital tools.

Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT jointly developed the curriculum, incorporating their expertise into its design.

It integrates AI-driven diagnostics, digital tools, and industry-standard safety measures, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for participants.

Training of Trainers (ToT) and Certification

A key component of the initiative is the Training of Trainers (ToT) program, which will equip over 250 instructors with specialized knowledge in EV technology and green skills.

Successful participants will receive co-branded certifications from Shell and DGT, enhancing their industry readiness.

Additionally, the program includes structured placement support, ensuring that trained individuals can seamlessly transition into EV-related job roles.

Industry Demand and Government Initiatives

The Government of India has been actively promoting Green Energy and EV adoption in line with its net-zero ambitions.

Flagship initiatives such as the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme) have accelerated EV uptake, improved infrastructure, and provided targeted incentives.

States like Delhi, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu have introduced dedicated EV policies, fostering local ecosystems and generating green jobs.

The DGT-Shell India training program supports ongoing national initiatives aimed at advancing green energy and EV adoption.

The program directly meets the rising demand for a skilled workforce, equipping professionals to thrive in these expanding sectors.
