Japanese air-conditioning giant Daikin Industries has launched a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Gurugram, India, in partnership with EY.
Named the Daikin Innovation and Services Hub, the facility is designed to build advanced capabilities in information technology, digital services, data management, finance, and artificial intelligence (AI).
The centre will initially employ around 700 professionals, with plans to scale further as operations mature.
This move reflects Daikin’s strategic shift from viewing India as a cost-reduction destination to recognizing it as a core innovation and talent hub.
A senior company official noted that the success of this initiative could pave the way for additional GCCs in India, reinforcing the country’s role in Daikin’s global operations.
Role of EY in GCC Setup and Industry Leadership
EY, recognized as a leader in GCC setup capabilities by Everest Group’s PEAK Matrix® Assessment 2024, has played a central role in establishing the Gurugram centre.
Daikin leveraged the firm’s expertise in digital transformation, AI integration, and operational scaling to design its new facility.
This future-ready center aligns with global best practices and supports long-term innovation goals.
The collaboration also highlights EY’s broader vision for India’s GCC landscape.
According to EY’s “Future of GCCs in India – Vision 2030” report, the domestic GCC market is projected to reach US$110 billion by 2030, driven by software exports and digital innovation.
India’s Growing Importance in Daikin’s Global Strategy
India is one of Daikin’s largest markets, with FY 2024–25 revenues reaching ₹12,500 crore.
Daikin has been steadily expanding its footprint in India.
This includes establishing an export-oriented plant in Sri City and venturing into component manufacturing, such as compressors.
Daikin’s Indian operations are not only contributing to domestic growth but also supporting exports to Africa, South America, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.
The GCC initiative supports these efforts by centralizing digital and operational capabilities in India.
This centralization enables quicker decision-making and enhances service delivery across global markets.
Talent and Technology at the Core of EY and Daikin’s Innovation Hub
The Daikin Innovation and Services Hub is designed to attract top-tier talent and foster a culture of innovation.
The facility will focus on building AI-driven solutions, enhancing data analytics capabilities, and streamlining financial operations.
This aligns with Daikin’s broader goal of becoming a digitally agile organization capable of responding to evolving customer and market demands.
The company emphasized that the GCC is not a cost-cutting measure but a deliberate investment in building critical capabilities.
The shift in mindset from the parent company in Japan underscores India’s growing strategic relevance.
KJ Jawa, Daikin India’s Managing Director, is the only non-Japanese member on the parent company’s board.
His inclusion reflects the growing influence of Indian leadership within the global organization.
Outlook and Future Expansion
Daikin’s GCC in Gurugram is expected to serve as a precursor to a larger-scale GCC in India.
The company is optimistic that the success of this hub will encourage further investments and expansions.
India is steadily emerging as a global hub for technology and services.
Daikin’s recent move validates the country’s potential to host high-value, innovation-led operations.
Industry analysts see this development as part of a broader trend among multinational corporations.
These companies are increasingly setting up GCCs in India to leverage its deep talent pool, strong infrastructure, and supportive regulatory landscape.
