Labour Secretary, Sumita Dawra, convened a crucial meeting with EPFO officials to discuss the implementation of the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme.

The ELI Scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, seeks to facilitate employment for 41 million young individuals over the next five years, with a central outlay of Rs 2 lakh crore.

ELI Scheme: Key Points Discussed in the Meeting:

Scheme Overview and Objectives: The ELI Scheme aims to incentivize employers to hire and retain workers by providing financial incentives.

It focuses on bridging the skills gap and promoting employment opportunities across various sectors.

EPFO’s Role: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is the implementing body for the three ELI schemes. EPFO’s active involvement is crucial for the successful execution of the scheme.

Understanding Provisions: Labour Secretary Sumita Dawra emphasized the need for EPFO field officers to fully comprehend the various provisions of the ELI Scheme.

Regular interactions with employers’ and employees’ associations were stressed to ensure effective implementation.

Advocacy and Impetus: The ministry highlighted that EPFO officers should take ownership of the scheme. They should also actively advocate for its benefits.

The desired impetus can be achieved through consistent efforts and engagement with stakeholders.

Feedback and Consultations: EPFO conducted extensive consultations with its zonal and regional offices to gather feedback from various stakeholder bodies and existing employers.

These consultations helped refine the scheme and address practical challenges.

Wrapping Up!

This meeting signifies a crucial step toward realizing the government’s vision of a skilled and employed workforce.

As the ELI Scheme unfolds, it will be essential to track its impact. It is also important to monitor the progress made in achieving its ambitious goals.
