With rapid technological advancements reshaping industries, working professionals are increasingly enrolling in upskilling courses offered by premier institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

These programs, covering artificial intelligence (AI), big data, electric vehicles, business management, and leadership, are designed to bridge skill gaps and ensure professionals remain competitive in the evolving job market.

Surge in Enrollments and Industry Demand for Upskilling

According to the Technopak Advisors report, nearly 70% of learners in these programs have less than three years of work experience, highlighting a strong preference for flexible, industry-aligned education.

Many professionals are opting for hybrid learning formats, allowing them to upskill without taking a career break.

The demand for AI, cybersecurity, and electric vehicle-related courses has surged, reflecting the changing landscape of employment.

Learning platforms such as Jaro Education, Simplilearn, TimesPro, and TalentEdge have reported growing participation, with Jaro stating that half of its learners have over two years of experience, while 23% have more than five years.

The Role of Micro-Credentials in Career Advancement

The Coursera Micro-Credentials Impact Report 2025 reveals that 97% of Indian employers are willing to offer higher starting salaries to candidates with micro-credentials.

Additionally, 95% of employers believe these certifications reduce training costs and onboarding time, while 98% say they improve candidate competitiveness.

Upskilling is no longer optional—it has become essential for professionals to stay employable in a rapidly evolving job market.

Experts emphasize that continuous learning is necessary to adapt to new tools, platforms, and business models.

Testimonials and Real-World Impact of Upskilling

Professionals across industries have benefited from these upskilling programs.

Dr. Girish Mohan Gupta, an 84-year-old entrepreneur, recently completed an executive MBA from IIM.

He stated “These courses are not just theoretical—they are very helpful in solving real-world business problems.”

Dr. Girish added, “I have learned how to grow money—and more importantly, how to protect it”.

Similarly, Prof. Diwahar Nadar of IIM Sambalpur emphasized the importance of continuous learning.

He stated, “With the constant evolution of technology, companies are being forced to adopt new tools, platforms, and business models.”

Diwahar added, “This is creating an urgent need for professionals to continuously update their skills”.
