Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming industries at an unprecedented pace, with a new PwC Global AI Jobs Barometer 2025 revealing that AI has quadrupled productivity growth in sectors most exposed to its adoption.
The report highlights that industries leveraging AI have seen a 27% increase in productivity and a threefold rise in revenue per employee, reshaping workforce dynamics and economic models.
AI’s Impact on Productivity and Revenue Growth
PwC’s analysis, based on nearly a billion job ads across six continents, found that industries with high AI exposure, such as financial services and software publishing, experienced a 27% productivity growth between 2018 and 2024.
In contrast, industries with low AI exposure, including mining and hospitality, saw a decline in productivity growth from 10% to 9% over the same period.
Additionally, AI-driven industries recorded a threefold increase in revenue per employee, significantly outpacing sectors with minimal AI integration.
PwC Report: Wage Growth and Job Creation in AI-Exposed Industries
Contrary to concerns about AI replacing jobs, the report indicates that job availability has grown by 38% in roles highly exposed to AI, including those considered highly automatable.
Key findings include:
- AI-skilled workers earned a 56% wage premium in 2024, doubling from 25% in the previous year.
- Job postings for AI-related roles grew 7.5% year-over-year, even as total job postings declined 11.3%.
- Augmented roles, where AI enhances human capabilities, saw faster job growth than fully automated positions.
