AI Boom in India: How Should an IT Aspirant Prepare for New Job Market?

Artificial intelligence (AI) has already taken the world by storm and sparked a number of debates regarding its utility. A technology that catered only to high-end enterprises a few years ago has seeped into most mainstream applications. From writing code for app development to editing photos and videos, Artificial intelligence is everywhere.

Understandably, this has created a state of panic among professionals whose careers run on the tasks now automated by AI tools. With ChatGPT writing articles, blogs, essays, and even the contents of research papers, a large chunk of the Indian population is getting increasingly insecure about their professional future.

So, are Indian IT professionals heading toward doomsday?

Not really! While we cannot deny the fact that a plethora of repetitive and pattern-oriented tasks are being automated by AI tools, it is important to focus on the new job opportunities created by the Artificial intelligence surge.

Jobs That Will Not Survive the Ongoing AI Boom

Whether you are an experienced professional or a fresher looking for a job, it is important to note that a bunch of traditional jobs performed using legacy platforms will no longer be relevant in the age of artificial intelligence. While you upskill yourself with modern technologies, make sure you do not stick to traditional roles.

Here are a few major jobs that are not likely to survive the ongoing AI boom:

1- Data Entry

Companies around the world have already started using AI-driven tools for fetching, organizing, processing, and entering data according to their specific requirements. They no longer need employees to sit at their desks and make data entries into their systems.

2- Entry-level Graphic Design

Unless you are a true creative genius, your entry-level graphic design skills may no longer be in use with the increasing AI dominance. Organizations no longer hire designers to create basic designs for banners, visiting cards, posters, etc. Tools like MidJourney and DALL.E are capable of creating entry-level designs at a much faster speed on receiving the right commands.

3- Fundamental Data Analysis

Just like data entry, data analysis is a task Artificial intelligence can perform in a faster and more effective way than humans. CRM platforms like Salesforce have already implemented AI tools like Einstein to streamline data analytics. These tools help organizations analyze their performance, predict customer behavior, and perform a range of different functions with a few simple clicks.

4- Entry-level Programming

If you wish to become a successful computer programmer or website developer, you will need to compete with AI tools of the future to create your niche in the IT industry. AI-driven platforms have already become capable of creating plugins and microservices according to specific user requirements. Looking at the way organizations are optimizing AI, it is safe to say that entry-level programming jobs might slip away from IT professionals’ hands soon!

New Jobs Created Due To The AI Boom

If you were getting disheartened by the jobs that may get redundant in the days to come, be informed that new opportunities await! The ongoing AI boom has led to the emergence of a variety of new jobs capable of reviving your career and finding a new niche in the industry.

Here are some of the most noteworthy new jobs the AI boom has given rise to:

1- Prompt Engineer

Prompts play an important role in the functioning of AI tools. They are the commands given to these tools to get the desired output. A prompt engineer is a professional responsible for composing an effective text string for large language models (LLMs). They are helpful in AI training as well as ensuring that AI delivers precisely the results users are looking for. Prompt engineers are required to have a complete understanding of how different AI tools operate and the tricks to obtain the best output with minimal effort.

2- AI Auditor

While AI is causing disruptions across the globe, most Artificial intelligence-driven tools are still going through a developmental phase. Many users complain about these tools being biased and inaccurate while responding to certain prompts. An AI auditor shoulders the responsibility of ensuring that an AI tool does not create such issues for users and making regular assessments for the same.

3- AI Ethicist

Despite being useful for professionals across all major industries, Artificial intelligence can be manipulated in unethical ways. For instance, claiming an AI-generated content piece to be created by a human is against the ethics of most organizations worldwide. An Artificial intelligence ethicist or ethics expert is a professional responsible for ensuring that organizations use AI tools in a fair and ethical way.

4- Machine Manager

The scope of AI is much bigger than humans entering prompts and receiving the desired output. Organizations require machines to work in sync with AI to perform complicated and large-scale tasks.  Machine managers are professionals who oversee this collaboration and work with AI-driven systems and hardware. Companies often look for Computer Science professionals well-versed in AI functionality to perform these roles.

AI Is The Future, But Will Not Render You Jobless

Artificial intelligence is limited by the data already created and available to the tools millions of IT professionals have been fearing. Despite giving you a pretense of being creative, AI can never be as innovative and free-thinking as a human being. Humans, unlike AI tools, have the ability to understand the existing patterns and break them at will.

Therefore, Indian IT professionals can rest assured that the new roles emerging amidst the ongoing AI boom will rely more on their intrinsic abilities to think, solve problems, and go beyond the generic first thoughts. If you limit your abilities to repetitive tasks that can be performed by an AI tool within a few seconds, you should definitely be worried about your job!

The AI boom is here and modern technologies are bound to replace traditional models. If Indian IT professionals want to thrive in such an environment and create their niche in the industry, it is important to upskill themselves, acquire skills in using modern AI tools with finesse, and think freely!
